All we know is ... they’re in

Tickets to see the Hamilton Bulldogs in the Ontario Hockey League final are on sale right now. That we know. Pretty much everything else about the final series, however, remains a mystery at this point.

Who will they be playing? Don’t know. When will the series start? Not sure. Will they have home-ice advantage? Unclear.

Filling in the gaps is on hold until there’s a resolution to the Sault Ste. Marie-Kitchener semifinal that was tied 2-2 heading into Friday’s Game 5. But here’s what we know and what we think we know.

There will be at least two home games. Tickets for them — and possibly as many as two more if needed — are $28 and $32

(no additional fees) and are available through ticketmaster.ca and at the First-Ontario Centre box office.

If Sault Ste. Marie wins, Hamilton will start on the road (likely this Wednesday and Friday) before returning home for Games 3 and 4 that would probably be on Sunday and Tuesday. If the series went to a Game 6, it would likely land on Saturday, May 12.

If Kitchener becomes the opponent, the Bulldogs have home-ice advantage and would probably play Games 1 and 2 on Thursday and Sunday. If Game 5 is necessary it would likely be on Friday, May 11. And since the series must be done by May 14, that’s when a Game 7 would be.

All these dates are negotiated among the teams and must be green-lighted by the league.

While the OHL record for largest playoff attendance isn’t clear — the league doesn’t have that number available — Hamilton could well take a run at the biggest post-season crowd in the past decade. Currently, that mark is held by the London Knights who drew 9,090 several times in 2008.

The winner of this series advances to the Memorial Cup in Regina. Picking a favourite to get there will be tough. In an odd bit of scheduling, the Bulldogs played all four of their games against the Rangers and Greyhounds during a two-week window in February. They beat the Soo 5-2 before losing 10-0, while losing 4-3 twice to Kitchener.
