Dancing to the Top
Over the past few months the competitive dance program has been very busy. We performed for Black History Month to celebrate diversity showcasing our African Dance Team. We also had the honour of opening the evening for a Charity Fashion Show at Michelangelo’s Banquet Hall. Our Contemporary line delivered a beautiful performance to a song called “Sorrow” which speaks to the pain and suffering we endure as humans and the importance of supporting one another in any way possible.
Finally, our 7 dance teams hit the stage at Hamilton’s Best Dance Crew hosted by Glendale Secondary School. Our dancers competed against over 20 other secondary schools in a variety of genres and categories. Our Cardinal Newman dancers wowed the judges and audience with their level of professionalism and stage presence. Special awards included “Best Technical Secondary Performance” for the Jazz Funk team called Cola choreographed by teacher and dance team director Mrs. Andrea Ferroni, as well as “Best Secondary Choreography” for Footloose also choreographed by Mrs. Ferroni. The African Dance team energized the auditorium with their vibrant performance sporting authentic African dashiki’s in multiple colours. The teams are looking forward to their upcoming performances and competitions including “Bedazzled” held at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre and “Niagara’s Best Dance Crew” where they will compete against 32 other schools at the Scotiabank Centre in Niagara Falls. Their spring show will be held at Cardinal Newman on Thursday, May 24th highlighting the dance teams as well as performances from students enrolled in the Grade 9-12 dance courses.
