The interest in antiques and the desire to preserve keepsake furniture has been integral to the growth of Mister Restoration over the past forty years. Owners Nick and Alice Groen, along with son Andy, are grateful to God and their loyal customers for the many years of success and look forward to celebrating this milestone with past and future customers.

It’s not always easy to discern whether a piece of furniture, no matter how much it’s loved, is worth restoring. In such cases, it’s best to rely on the experts to help you decide.

“Many customers begin with a

request for an online quote” says Nick. Our website, mister restoration. ca, allows people to upload pictures and also view galleries of our past work. “We can often tell what kind of wood it is and what sort of condition it is in to provide a ballpark price and assess if it’s worth restoring.” Older furniture can be valuable when it’s crafted with high quality wood like mahogany, walnut and oak.

While the decision to restore a high quality piece of furniture that holds sentimental value may be a no-brainer for some customers, there are also instances in which newer furnishings are also worthy of refinishing.

“We’ll refinish furniture pieces that are ten years old if they’re well built and the owners believe they

work well in the house,” explains Alice. “Right now the trend is darker stains, so we’re refinishing furniture with darker colours because the homeowner wants an updated look with furniture they already own.”

In addition to refinishing furniture, Mister Restoration sells an assortment of quality Ontariocrafted, unfinished solid wood furniture. Many items are built by our Mennonite friends. Customers are encouraged to visit the showroom to select the perfect piece for their home. Many pieces can be customized .Customers can then choose a stain for Mister Restoration to finish, or take the unfinished furniture home to stain themselves.

The process for restoration can take anywhere from four to six weeks, according to Nick. After hand stripping, repairs can be quite extensive if the piece of furniture needs to be taken apart and re-glued. Customers are encouraged to be a part of the process by checking on the furniture halfway through the process to confirm the preferred stain and finish. Re-upholstery is also offered since many antique pieces of furniture include a fabric component.

Mister Restoration takes great pride in quality workmanship . Anyone who is considering restoring or refinishing a favourite piece of furniture is encouraged to reach out for a free estimate. Love your furniture all over again!
