HAMILTON OLDTIMERS’ BASEBALL ORGANIZATI­ON 55-plus division — The A’s broke a 6-6 tie with three runs in the seventh inning and hung on for a 9-7 win over the Dodgers in one of two season openers. Keith Howard paced the A’s attack with three hits, while Ian Kelso, Fred Midgley, Mike Parisi and Rob Whitenect each had a pair. Greg McEachern smacked three hits and drove in five runs for the Dodgers. Bob McDermott, Dan Kaluzny and Harvey Sahker each had two hits. Ron Bocock of the Dodgers made the defensive play of the game with a shoestring catch in right field. In the other game, the Cardinals swamped the Tigers 19-7. Gary David banged out hour hits, while Chris Fraser and Doug Jackson each had three to lead the Cardinals. Brian Avery, Brian Elwood, Stephen McClure and John McGrath each had two hits for the Cards. Al Purins had three hits for the Tigers, while Mike Fazari, John Fuciarelli, Frank Simioni and Jeff Lumby each had two.

ON THE LANES

Mick Anderer was a four-time winner as the City Tenpin League at Skyway Lanes wrapped up its 115 consecutiv­e year. Along with a perfect 300 game Anderer had high aggregate at 22711, high average at 222 and was on the winning team with Mark Andrews, Pete Haveman & Shawna Prieur. They squeezed out a one pin victory over Mark Ward, John Cooper, Steve Cowie & Aleta Manning with Josh Charters, Pat Richards, Mark Kelso & Jeff Tripp third.

Kevin Kartonchik’s 803 (268,246,289) triple on the last night captured high triple over Anderer’s 780 with Tim LaCroix’s 763 third. Anderer’s 300 was high single over Kartonchik’s 290 with Brent LaCroixat 289 & Mark Ward 287. The “B” division winners were Bill Ralston’s 653 triple over Matt LaCroix’s 651 with Ralson’s 267 high single with Peter Cross and Jerry Cote tied at 247. Most improved was Marcel Tisi from 132 to 147. The first two women bowlers ever joined in year 115 and were just under 200 with Shawnna Prieur at 198 and Aleta Manning 197. Their top three triples were Prieur 720, 668 and 665 and Manning 683,660 and 653 and top three singles were Prieur 276, 258 and 256 and Manning 268, 267 and 257.

The Hamilton Ringette Associatio­n is hosting a free “Come Try Ringette” event Sunday, May 27, at 1:30 p.m. at the Mohawk Quad Pad for children ages 4 and up (players must be able to stand without assistance). All you need to bring is a helmet, skates, winter gloves or protective gloves and your enthusiasm — we’ll supply the sticks and rings.
