MERULLA, Giuseppe

August 7, 1931- May 26, 2018

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Giuseppe (Joe), surrounded by his entire loving family on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the age of 86, at St. Peter’s Hospital. Beloved husband of Rosalia for more than 60 years. Cherished and devoted father of Luigina (Louise) and Umberto Cedri, Rosaria (Rose) and Dr. Bruno Chiesa, Iolanda and Tony Bozz, and Councillor Salvatore (Sam) and Corinne Merulla. Loving and proud nonno of Dr. Julia Chiesa and Dr. Kamal Gill, Stephanie and Adrian Fodorean, Michael and Roxanne Chiesa, Andrea Bozz, Alexa Merulla, and Sabrina Merulla. Adoring and cherished bisnonno to Elaina, and Davin Gill. Predeceased by his loving parents Salvatore and Luigia Merulla and parents-in-law Salvatore and Rosaria Tirone. Dear brother and brother-in-law of the late Giuseppina and Luigi Rizzo of Italy, the late Calogero and Muriel Merulla of England, the late Concetta Merulla of England, the late Angela and Luigi Bartolotta of Hamilton, Salvatrice and the late Filippo Licata of England, the late Dorotea Tirone, Angela Tirone, the late Calogera and Gaspare Ippolito, Maria and Luigi Fuca, and Leonardo and Nancy Tirone, all of Hamilton. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, family and friends in Italy, England, and Canada. Giuseppe arrived in Canada on November 13, 1954 from Racalmuto, Italy. He was a proud Canadian who devoted his entire life to the future success of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Giuseppe loved spending time with his family and he taught us the importance of love, loyalty, and unity. Giuseppe was a retired employee of Stelco and a member of Local 1005. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. S. Macaluso, Dr. M. Castelluzzo, the staff of LoPresti Pharmacy, and the staff of Juravinski Hospital and St. Peter’s Hospital for the compassionate care of Giuseppe. Visitation at FRISCOLANTI FUNERAL CHAPEL, 43 Barton St. E. (near James) on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Vigil prayers Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Catherine of Sienna Church, Our Lady of Lourdes Site, 416 Mohawk Rd. E., on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 10 a.m. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Burlington. In kindness, donations to the Juravinski Cancer Centre or St. Peter’s Hospital would be greatly appreciated by the family.
