HAMILTON OLDTIMERS’ BASEBALL ORGANIZATI­ON Cardinals scored eight runs in the top of the final inning to break open what had been a tight game and beat the Dodgers 20-13. Stephen McClure, with four hits and three RBIs, and Gary David, with three hits and four RBIs, led the Cards attack. Stephen Biback, John McGrath and Chris Fraser each had three hits for the winners, while Laurie Williams had two hits and three RBIs. Bob McDermott had three hits and scored three runs for the Dodgers, while Dan Kaluzny, Ted Pritchard and Rich Salvatore each had two hits.In the other game, the A's moved into a firstplace tie with the Cardinals with an 11-1 win over the Tigers. Ian Kelso and Rob Whitenect each banged out three hits for the A's, while Dan Creechan, Keith Howard, and Mike Pitoscia each had two. Paul Smelser had two RIBIs for the A's. HAMILTON HORNETS RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB

The senior women kicked off their season in Stoney Creek. They had a tough loss. Madison Cunha scores the Hornets’ point with a try and a convert. The senior men first team came back from a ten point deficit but lost to the Niagara Wasps on the last play of the game 43-36. Will Redgate, Jon Sueter, Kevin McGowan, and Jeff Dowhan scored tries. Keiron Martin kicked four converts and one penalty kick. The senior men’s second team had the lead early in the second half but lost 45-26 to the Niagara Wasps. Kevin Brown scored two tries, Alan Murray scored once and Juan Pablo Diaz scored a try and kicked three converts.

MOUNTAIN VOLLEYBALL CLUB

14U Black team finished second at the 14U Ontario Championsh­ips. The week prior, 14U Black won a Silver medal playing up an age division at the 15U Ontario Championsh­ips. Over the OVA season in their 14U age division, the Black 14U team won a Gold medal and 2 Silver medals including three Gold medals and a Silver medal at OVA 15U and 16U competitio­ns. 14U Black athletes Frances Cooke, Payton Lightfoot and Olivia Dmitrovich have been selected for the OVA Region 3 (South Western Ontario) Indoor High Performanc­e 14U Team competing at the 2018 Ontario Summer Games. The 14U Black team is coached by Dave Lightfoot, Julie Entwistle, and Christian Hollingshe­ad. The 14U Black team athletes include Frances Cooke, Payton Lightfoot, Olivia Dmitrovich, Sarah Elchuk, Mary Andrikopou­los, Eve Entwistle, Payton Entwistle, Anna Robertson, Kaitlin Lee and Lauren McCarthy.

Give rugby a try! Youth ages 5 to 18-years can try rugby at no charge in free training sessions Monday, June 4, 6 to 8 p.m., and Sunday, June 10, 1 to 4 p.m., at Mohawk Sports Park Field #1. There will be fun and prizes while youth try out noncontact rugby for those eleven and under and contact rugby for youth 12 and older without needing to register for the entire season.
