-

ASHLEY MACISAAC

His career has had plenty of twists and turns, but Cape Breton fiddler Ashley MacIsaac’s live act is still electrifying. MacIsaac performs Thursday, 8:15 p.m., at Spencer Smith Park on the opening night of the four-day Burlington Sound of Music Festival. Fiddle fans will also want to see Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy Friday, 9:30 p.m., on the festival’s OLG stage. Free.

SCOTT HELMAN

This 22-year-old Toronto musical prodigy writes well-crafted and intelligent pop songs and delivers them on stage in a fiery live performance guaranteed to bring a crowd to its feet every time. Helman received three nominations at this year’s Juno Awards, including songwriter of the year. Helman and his band perform on the Sound of Music mainstage Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Free.

MOLLY JOHNSON

Molly Johnson is best known as a jazz vocalist in the style of her inspiration, Billie Holiday, but this Toronto singer can do it all — blues, jazz, soul, funk and rock. Johnson recorded her most recent album, “Meaning to Tell Ya,” with Grammy-winning producer Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Tracy Chapman, Norah Jones). Johnson performs on the Cogeco Stage (City Hall) Saturday at 9:30 p.m. Free.

KONGOS

You may not know the name, but you know the music. Kongos is the South African band responsible for the hit “Come with Me Now,” a pounding alt-rock earworm that seemingly couldn’t be avoided back in 2014. Kongos is the headlining act on the Sound of Music main stage Saturday, taking the stage at 9:30 p.m. Ontario nerd rockers The Elwins precede Kongos at 8 p.m. Free.

MATTHEW GOOD

This multiple Juno-winning British Columbia-based iconoclast has been churning out quality rock music for 25 years, releasing nine solo albums and four more with the Matthew Good Band. Good closes the Burlington Sound of Music festival on Sunday (Father’s Day) on the main stage at 5:30 p.m., following The Pursuit of Happiness (3:30 p.m.). Free.
