Man charged after woman killed in Hamilton crash
Hamilton police say speed, street racing and alcohol were factors in a three-vehicle crash that killed a 25-year-old Hamilton woman Wednesday night.
Police have charged Warren Lewis, 35, with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, and with failure to comply with probation conditions.
The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on Queenston Road at Delena Avenue, police said.
Witnesses at the scene described two vehicles, a silver 2009 Mercedes and a white sedan racing westward on Queenston Road.
The crash occurred as the Mercedes struck a 2013 Toyota Yaris as it was exiting a private driveway.
The 25-year-old woman, who was driving the Yaris, was unresponsive at the scene and died in hospital.
The impact of the collision caused the Mercedes to veer into oncoming traffic and crash headon into a 2010 Ford Escape. The driver of that vehicle, a 37-yearold Hamilton man, was transported to hospital where he was treated and has been released.
The driver of the Mercedes suffered minor injuries.
Police are asking for witnesses to come forward with any information related to this incident and the involved drivers and vehicles.
Police are also urging the driver of the second car in the street racing incident to contact police.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Const. Jaimi Bannon of the collision reconstruction unit at 905-546-4753.
