A summer of music comes to Fieldcote
A special tribute to the music of Stan Rogers, the all-star singing group Quartette and the neoflamenco guitarist Johannes Linstead will be among the acts performing this summer at the Music at Fieldcote concert series in Ancaster.
Music at Fieldcote is held Sunday evenings, 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the outdoor bandshell behind the Fieldcote Museum, 64 Sulphur Springs Rd., Ancaster. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged.
• The series opens Sunday, July 8, with a concert by Mark McNeil, a local musician and Hamilton Spectator reporter, who writes songs about local history, including the stories of Evelyn Dick and Rocco Perri. McNeil’s acoustic performance will be backed by popular local band Trickbag.
• July, 15 — The National Academy Orchestra, led by guest conductor Martin MacDonald, will perform “Songs of the Second World War,” with some help from the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum and a specially built dance floor to jitterbug on.
• July 22 — Quartette, featuring the critically acclaimed harmonies of Sylvia Tyson, Cindy Church, Caitlin Hanford and Gwen Swick.
• July 29 — Ari and the Alibis, a six-piece jazz, funk and soul group from Tampa Bay, has released two albums. The Hamilton Aerial Group will put on an acrobatic pre-concert display, starting at 6 p.m.
• Aug. 5 — Johannes Linstead is a virtuoso guitarist with a band that brings out the best in Latin rhythms and grooves.
• Aug. 12 — A tribute to the music of the great Dundas singersongwriter Stan Rogers, 35 years after his tragic death. Featuring Poor Angus, Paul Mills, Jude Johnson, Ariel Rogers, Beth Rogers, Mark McNeil and Scott Cameron Smith.
• Aug. 19 — Amanda Martinez is a Canadian-based singer-songwriter whose music mixes Mexican and South African roots.
