A 45-year-old Burlington man has been found dead in Lake Ontario just east of the Brant Street Pier.

His naked body was seen floating roughly five metres from shore at about 6:19 p.m. on Saturday by visitors to the busy Burlington waterfront.

Police and paramedics responded to a 911 call and removed him from the water.

“The body was pulled to shore and was obviously deceased,” said Det. Jared McLeod of the Halton Regional Police Service.

He estimated Saturday night that the body had been in the water for a day or so.

“There doesn’t appear to be anything suspicious,” McLeod said.

“Nothing glaring at this point in time.”

The circumstances leading to his death remain under investigation.

The Halton police criminal investigation bureau is seeking CCTV video and canvassing the area for witnesses.

The body was taken to Hamilton General Hospital for an autopsy, as well as for other tests such as toxicology.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Candido Moniz of the Burlington criminal investigations bureau at 905-8254747, ext. 2312.
