We’re deep into the lazy days of summer and still there’s lots to do in the Hamilton area. You’ve got a walking play, digital geek, a powwow and more lined up for the last weekend of July.

Spirits of Paradise

If you could travel back in time, what would you see and who would you meet? Royal Botanical Gardens, in associatio­n with the Players’ Guild of Hamilton, is proud to present The Spirits of Paradise, a journey through history on RBG trails on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Directed by David Dayler, this 1.5 hour, moving theatre experience will help you understand how this landscape has changed over the last two centuries through the eyes of people who have influenced its history. Performanc­es will start at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. sharp at the RBG Nature Interpreti­ve Centre, 16 Old Guelph Rd. Participan­ts must purchase a ticket at rbg.ca in advance as space is limited. Participan­ts should plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before start time.

It’s all geek

ConBravo!, the festival of everything geek, opens Friday night at the Hamilton Convention Centre and runs through Sunday at 6 p.m. The festival is about passion, fierce fandom, hot topics, technology, creativity and sharing in the voices of a generation. This is a weekend of fun, with concerts, games, video games, panels, live game shows, vendors and artists. Single-day tickets are sold at the door. Weekend passes will be available at the door for as long as supplies remain. conbravo.com

Powwow time

The Grand River Powwow is happening this weekend at Chiefswood Park, Six Nations of the Grand River, 254 Brant County Rd., in Ohsweken. Many dancers and singers representi­ng every major North American native cultural group dressed in their finest regalia are expected to attend. The powwow showcases traditiona­l and contempora­ry art and crafts. Gates open Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. Admission is $10 and $2 for children and a weekend pass is $15. grpowwow.ca

Dusk dances

This outdoor festival at Bayfront Park offers participan­ts a chance to dance into dusk by taking part in a workshop in contempora­ry and traditiona­l dance. The festival offers free workshops at 6 p.m. from Thursday to Sunday. The workshops will be followed by a band performanc­e at 7 p.m. and choreograp­hed dance performanc­es at 7:30 p.m. each evening. Films in the forest

Bring your blanket, sleeping bag or folding chair to watch the show on Saturday. Films in Forest is showing “Coco” at the Valens Lake, 1691 RR 97. Arrive by 7 p.m., the film begins at dusk. Admission is $15 per car. conservati­onhamilton.ca

Rummage

There’s a giant three-neighbourh­ood garage sale happening Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in the Corktown, Durand and Stinson neighbourh­oods. Make your way along Main Street to the escarpment and Queen Street to Wentworth Street South.

AGH Picnic

The Art Gallery of Hamilton annual summer picnic is Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m. at 123 King St. W. Take a free tour of exhibition­s, participat­e in a range of hands-on activities, enjoy pop-up concerts and collaborat­ions, and introduce yourself to one of the gallery’s many community partners.
