Charges in high-end car thefts

-

BURLINGTON — A 38-year-old well-known criminal from Hamilton is facing charges in connection with the thefts of two highend vehicles from a Burlington home.

Halton police said the arrest happened after a house in Aldershot was broken into sometime between Wednesday and Thursday nights and the two high-end cars were stolen. The house wasn’t occu- pied at the time and the vehicles had the keys in them.

Police later stopped one of the vehicles allegedly driven by Leon Robert Blais.

Both stolen vehicles have been recovered and will be returned to the owner after forensic examination, Det. Steve Siomra said.

Police declined to provide details about the make or model of the high-end vehicles because that could identify the victim.

Blais, also known as “Robbie,” is charged with break and enter, two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime and possession of a controlled substance.

He is well known to local police, having been charged in connection with gun crimes, robberies, conspiring to smuggle drugs into jail, break-ins and thefts, mostly in the early 2000s. He’s previously been involved in armed standoffs with police.

It’s been about nine years since the last time his name appeared in a police press release.
