Simoni Lawrence doesn’t want to talk about it, beyond what he’s already said on Twitter, but he’s been fined for violating the Canadian Football League’s dress code policy.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ star linebacker indicated in two tweets late last week that he’d been fined $500, twice.

A league spokesperson confirmed to The Spectator Monday afternoon that Lawrence had been fined for two dress code policy infractions.

In an Aug. 17 post on his verified account Lawrence wrote: “How am I getting fined 500 dollars for an inch of black shirt coming out of my jersey this past game?”

And later that day: “And fined another 500 for socks week before for socks but some games you can wear your socks low if it’s hot ?? Y’all don’t play football. Who tells you what’s to hot for players ?”

He tweeted twice more that day, but said through a Ticats’ media relations person Monday he prefers not to discuss the situation any further.

Head coach June Jones said he wasn’t aware Lawrence had incurred the fines.

The CFL spokesperson said Lawrence received two warning letters “a couple of games prior” to being fined for a sock violation and an undershirt violation. When both happened again, the spokesperson said Lawrence was then fined, although the amount of the fines and the games involved were not specified to The Spectator.

The Tiger-Cats played most recently in Winnipeg, Aug. 10, and Montreal, Aug. 3.

The spokesperson said that, in each CFL locker-room, there is a prominently displayed poster which illustrates the league’s dress code rules for game-day uniforms.

NOTES: Boundary cornerback

Delvin Breaux took full practice Monday and will play against Edmonton at Tim Hortons Field Thursday night, Jones said.
