COZY DECOR

Cozy up your home this fall

-

As colder temperatures begin to creep up on us, we find ourselves feeling nostalgic for the warmth of summer days and nights. But you can use lighting and finishes, warm colours and layered textiles indoors to create an inviting retreat from the chilly outdoors.

Here, Sharon Grech, Benjamin Moore colour and design expert, shows us how. Sunshine isn’t only in the summer

With the temperatures dropping, make your space feel warm and cozy by playing with the room’s natural lighting. Optimize sunlight using a semi-gloss or high-gloss paint finish, which will create a mirror effect. “Benjamin Moore Advance offers the perfect glossy finish that will make any surface shine, allowing light to bounce around and fill the space,” says Grech.

“Just think about how good it feels to open a window during those crisp fall months and have sunlight hit every corner of the room.” Colour me cozy

Another great way to add warmth to your home is by selecting a colour palette on the warmer side of the paint spectrum. Rich red hues and earthy browns or ochres can instantly heat up the atmosphere of a room, while greens, blues and greys help provide a cooler contrast and subtle Layer décor like your wardrobe As we pack on jackets, sweaters and flannel shirts during the colder months, we can make a room look and feel warmer by incorporating layers into décor, such as through pillows, blankets and textured rugs.

“The key is to choose materials that we associate with the feeling of warmth. Faux fur throws, rustic wood furnishings and thick vintage textiles all bring that coziness to a space.”
