Man in critical condition after fight in Hess Village
A 23-year-old man is in critical condition after getting into a fight in Hess Village over the weekend.
Hamilton police said the man suffered a serious brain injury after being struck with a closed fist in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police said they were called to the area of Hess Street and King Street West after receiving reports of an unconscious man being carried by two other men at about 3 a.m.
Through their initial investigation, police determined two men had decided they were going to fight one another, Const. Lorraine Edwards said.
They got into an argument, which then escalated. “It wasn’t like somebody jumped the other guy,” she added.
Edwards said the incident was not random and alcohol was involved. No weapons were used, she said.
Police have charged Loren Perrin, 28, of Hamilton with aggravated assault.

This is one of several incidents that have occurred near Hess Village over the last two weeks.
On Sept. 5, a 33-year-old pedestrian suffered serious injuries after being hit by a blue Mini Cooper while crossing King at Hess.
Over the Labour Day long weekend, an 18-year-old Hamilton man suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries after being stabbed in the head in Hess Village.
On Aug. 30, two teens were taken to hospital — one with serious injuries — after a double shooting near Market and Hess streets.
And a woman in her 30s suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being stabbed in the early hours of Aug. 25 near Hess and George streets.
