2001 — Sports return to New York for the first time since the terrorist attacks with the New York Mets/ Atlanta Braves game at Shea Stadium. Mike Piazza hits a two-run home run in the 8th inning off Steve Karsay to win the game 3-2.

2008 — The United States claims the 2008 Ryder Cup golf trophy with a 16.5-11.5 victory over Europe. 2008 — Jose Molina hits the last home run in the 85-year history of Yankee Stadium in New York, to give the New York Yankees a 7-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles. The stadium will be demolished, replaced by a new US$1.3 billion Yankee Stadium across the way from the exisiting facility.
