AROUND THE DIAMONDS

HAMILTON OLDE SPORTS SLO-PITCH ASSOCIATION The championship game for the Hamilton Olde Sports Slo-Pitch Association was held Tuesday, Sept. 18 at Turner Park. The regular season champion Apple Tree Gang completed the seldom achieved ‘double’ by defeating Breakaway Distributing 31-9 to sweep the two league trophies. Andy Price went 5-for 5 with 5 runs scored while Leo Poirier went 5 for 5 with 4 runs scored using leg man, John Piccoli. Pitcher Alex Kinnaird’s 45 mph ‘heater’ accounted for 5 K’s. Bill Howie won his third straight league championship and awaits his September (October? November? December?) call-up to the ‘show.’ Solid defence by the rest of the team (Rick Reid, Glen Lawson, Mickey McBride, Thom Kinch, Shannon Barry, Terry Lariviere, Sue Johnston, Sam Hobbs, Dave Soltys, Doug Jackson) under the tutelage of coach Bob Kaus, kept the Distributors at bay.

The 2018 all over winner is the Men. Patrick Cote of the Burlington Lawn Bowling Club, won Ontario Gold in the Provincial Indoor Singles Championship, on Sept. 22 and 23, at the Willowdale LBC. Cote will now travel to the Pacific Indoor Lawn Bowling Club in Vancouver as Ontario’s hopeful competing in the Nationals Oct. 22 to 27. This is the 6th Burlington member to compete in a National this season.

ON THE LANES

It took over three weeks into the 2018 – 2019 tenpin bowling season before the first perfect 300 games were recorded and then there were a pair in three days. Harold Jacques started with a 176 game at Burlington Bowl and then threw 12 strikes in a row for the 300. He started game three with a strike, then a late four bagger for a 193 and 669 triple. On the same team were Joe Jacques and Sandra and Brianna Chrysler.

On the same night at this popular 48 lane house, Felix Suansing just missed 700 by three pins with games of 216, 236 and 245. Adam Mairinger scored a 255, John Stanisz 246, John Posavad and Jeff Therrien 237, Scott Dalley 223 and Peter Sampson plus 51 with a 189. Val Ciach-Link who finished last season with a 194 average, is off to a good start with a 690 triple.

For the first time in six years there are two new members of Hall of Fame, both for meritorious service. They are Barb Hollands, current association manager, and Ron Metcalfe, longtime junior booster.
