RE: FORD IS RIGHT TO END ELECTRIC CAR SUBSIDIES (SEPT. 18)
Kenneth Green bills himself an analyst, but there is little evidence of such ability in his essay.
Don’t get me wrong. I have mixed views on electric passenger cars (e-cars), but Tesla did not sue the Ontario government because the subsidy was cut. They sued because they were the only e-car seller that was not granted the Sept. 10 deadline; instead, their deadline was backdated to July 11.
Green provides speed in km/h and range in miles when referring to performance. No able analyst would present similar data in different measurement systems. This is either sloppy work or is designed to mislead the reader as 80 miles sounds smaller than 128 km.
Subsidies for e-cars came from cap-and-trade funds, not from taxes.
BMW does not intend to sue the Ontario Government because they were granted the Sept. 10 deadline along with all other e-car sellers that have a physical car lot.
And finally, in Ontario most of the electricity, especially at night, is generated from facilities that emit very low or no greenhouse gases.
Mr. Green might find alternate employment more suited to his abilities and Spec editors might want to consider exercising tighter editorial control.
