Son accused of attempted murder in Stoney Creek stabbing
57-year-old man is expected to survive
A 26-year-old man is accused of attempted murder after his father was stabbed during a fight inside the family’s Stoney Creek home on Thanksgiving Monday.
The 57-year-old man was stabbed “several times” during a “family disturbance” inside the McNeilly Road home just after 9 a.m., said Staff Sgt. Dave Oleniuk of the Hamilton police major crime unit.
He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but by Monday evening he was listed in critical but stable condition. Oleniuk said he’s expected to survive.
There were two other family members inside the house, near Barton Street East, at the time, but no one else was injured.
Oleniuk declined to discuss what the fight was about, other than to say police believe there was intent to kill.
Hamilton police said there was never any danger to the public. The son surrendered without incident.
Divisional detectives initially responded to investigate the stabbing.
But as the investigation progressed, the case was handed over to the major crime unit, which investigates homicides and attempted murders, at about 2:30 p.m.
On Monday night, police were holding the scene awaiting judicial authorization for a search warrant.
The son, charged with attempted murder, is expected to appear in court Tuesday morning. Police have not yet released his name, as the charge has not yet been sworn in court.
Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Catherine Lockley at 905-546-3825.
