NEWCOMBE, Walter “Roy”

-

It is with great sadness that the family of Roy Newcombe announces his passing on Friday, October 5, 2018, eight days prior to his 92nd birthday. Predeceased by his beloved wife Linda in 2011 (nee Cooper). Roy was the much loved and respected father of Paula (Lance), Mark (Erin), and David (Leslie), and adored granddaddy of Evan, Patrick, Laura, Madeline, and Jane. His sister Marjory of Calgary, brother Leigh of PEI, and Paul (Joyce) of Victoria, BC will miss him dearly. He was a man of extraordinary talents, interests, and intellect, being one of the first Engineering Professors at McMaster University and helped pave the way for the future Engineering Program. His education and interests led him around the world where his input was put towards the development of many technologies. Roy was a squadron leader for No. 424 Squadron RCAF. Most of all, Roy was the humblest of men and a tireless volunteer with the Greensville Optimists and Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum. You could always find Roy mowing a lawn, building an original Roy contraption, or climbing up a tree. Thank you to the staff at the Hamilton General Hospital and the compassionate staff of Amica in Dundas. A special thank you to Dr. Lepic at Juravinski. Please join us to honour Roy at a gathering from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the Dundas Air Force Association, 128 King Street East, Dundas. Cremation has taken place followed by a private family interment at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations in Roy’s memory may be made to Mount Allison University (https://www.mta.ca/esp/) or to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum.
