Leadership at St. Augustine School

- BY ELIZABETH SIENNA, GRADE 7 AND MIKAYLA NEVILLS, GRADE 8

One day at St. Augustine school, the Student Council gave every student the opportunity to design a leadership t-shirt that represents all that we do at St. Augustine. We both went home that day very excited with so many ideas flowing through our heads.

I, (Elizabeth) started off with the cross, which is the root of everything we do at St. Augustine. I then added the ruler and pencil to represent our amazing education. I surrounded these things with symbols representing all the different groups in our school such as our sports teams, Lego robotics, science fair, stamp club, the health action team, music club, and the eco club.

I, Mikayla, added the bear on the back of the shirt to represent St. Augustine’s mascot.

At the end of every month, we gather in the gym for our monthly Leadership Assembly. Everyone in the school, including the teachers, wears their leadership shirt. Each assembly includes a performance from the music club which does a song relating to the Virtue of the Month, a prayer service presented by the Student Council, followed by the giving out of the Virtue of the Month awards. Each Assembly recognizes different groups in our school and how they show leadership.

Here’s what students have to say about our leadership activities at the school:

“I like when Mr. Trotta (principal) talks about leadership.” ~ Claire Castelli, Grade 3

“Everyone is gathered in the gym as a family.” ~ Jaiden Vandervelte, Grade 5

“I like when people get rewarded for when they do good things in the school community.” ~ Ellah Verge, Grade 7

We are looking forward to Leadership Assemblies in the future.
