Police warn of attempted abduction of young girl on her way to school

-

Hamilton police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man allegedly involved in an attempted child abduction in the southeast end Thursday morning.

A nine-year-old girl was on her way to Sir Wilfrid Laurier Elementary School on Albright Road near Quigley Road around 8:45 a.m. when a darkcoloured vehicle pulled up alongside her and rolled down its passenger window, police said.

A male driver leaned across the vehicle and offered the girl, who was walking alone, a lollipop if she would get inside, police said.

The girl ran to school where she reported the incident. She was not injured, said Const. Lorraine Edwards.

The driver is described as a 50-year-old man with a dark, bushy moustache and a “wrinkly” face.

He was wearing a light-grey sweater and a black baseball hat, police said.

The vehicle is described as black with four doors and dark windows. It’s possibly a Honda with two scratches to the front passenger door, police said.

This is the only incident police are aware of at this time, Edwards said.

It’s not believed that the man knew the girl, she added.

Hamilton police want to remind students to walk in pairs when travelling to and from school.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Division 2 staff sergeant at 905-546-2963.
