Make a difference on Monday
RE: BURLINGTON ELECTION
Thank you for the excellent reporting in the Hamilton Spectator.
The writing is well researched, fair and informative. As resident of Burlington, I find the Readers Write and column by Joan Little especially helpful. People are eager to know what is happening in our community as witnessed by the capacity crowds lining up for political debates.
There have been attacks on a city council member for not ‘going along’ with the group and voting in lock step with other members. Get along, vote together, then go for a beer afterward. This is not freedom and not democracy. Our elected representatives are being asked to vote on our behalf and in consideration for the overall good.
Some of history’s most respected people have voted against the general trend believing it to be wrong, unethical and even dishonest.
How alarming to hear of ‘deep pockets — dirty politics are creeping into Burlington’s election — persuasions, advertising and innuendos from anonymous sources.
It’s easy to criticize. Especially nasty to do this without identifying yourself. Burlington is becoming a major city. As citizens we must know the plans for our precious home ground. The world is in crisis. Let’s participate in making a positive difference wherever we can. Know what you are voting for on Oct. 22.
