Hot strip mill upgrade

A major upgrade to the company’s hot strip mill to improve cooling technology will assist in creating advanced high strength steels. Boiler upgrade

An upgraded, high-pressure boiler will produce steam that will allow the production 20 MW of electricity while providing steam to the plant grid for production requirements.

Batch anneal upgrade Annealing equipment will be upgraded to increase production efficiencies. Annealing is a finishing process that involves heating coils to finalize metallurgical properties.

Fuel rate improvement plan

A blast furnace fuel rate improvement plan will reduce fuel consumption, reducing CO2 emissions. Greenhouse gases are expected to be reduced by up to 100,000 tonnes compared to current annual totals — the equivalent of taking 25,000 cars off the road.

Blast furnace campaign extension

The blast furnace campaign extension program plans to increase hot metal and slab production during restoration activities and minimize unplanned shutdowns.

Heavy equipment upgrades

The company will purchase large, state-of-the-art material transport vehicles that meet the latest environmental standards for emissions.
