Trump is leader of fake news
RE: LETTERS (NOV. 16)
Thanks to the writer for his insights on this issue. We are inundated with accusations about fake news, which does not come out of thin air but must have been created somewhere. So who really is the undisputed originator, considering that he has a great propensity for being untruthful; to the degree that some 5,000 lies or misrepresentations have been catalogued by the Washington Post to date.
And Torstar’s key reporter in Washington, Daniel Dale, made a name for himself by keeping track of the truthfulness during the three debates. Poor, lying Hillary could only muster 16 such statements, Donald Trump, some 114.
All of which leads to the conclusion that for lies and misrepresentations, which are fertile fields for creating fake news, President Trump is by far the leader in this deplorable practice.
And what a voice he has in the world, aided by compliant White House staff and a major television network, that can be relied on to pass on his views. Add his penchant for tweeting regularly on all issues, and it is hard to think of any other individual or media organization that could even come close in originating all those vilified FN creations. Pity that some looks in the mirror, now and then, seem never to be in play. Easier by far to chronically blame others.
