‘Elaborate’ break-in shuts Six Nations fire station

Thieves cut through fence and wall, and beat security system

-

A Six Nations fire station is closed indefinitely after an “elaborate” break-in at the site.

Six Nations Fire and Emergency Services announced late Tuesday that Station 3, at 2134 Cayuga Rd., is closed after thieves cut through a security fence, broke through a double cinder block wall at the rear of the station and bypassed the security system.

Once inside, the thieves stole all of the equipment from two fire trucks and attempted to steal the trucks themselves, damaging them significantly in the process, according to a post on Six Nations Fire and Emergency Services’ Facebook page.

Early estimates indicate $200,000 in damage.

The closure will be in place until the station and trucks are repaired and the equipment replaced.

During that time, there will be a delay in emergency response to the fire Station 3 district, which includes River Range Road; Oneida Road; Cayuga Road north of Fourth Line; Onondaga Road north of Fourth Line; Tuscarora Road north of Fifth Line; Sixth Line east of Tuscarora Road; Fifth Line east of Tuscarora Road and Fourth Line east of Onondaga Road.

It is the second time in just over a year that the station was vandalized. Multiple gunshots were fired last November. About 10 bullet holes were discovered. Officials have not linked the two incidents.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Six Nations Police at 519-445-2811.

Six Nations Fire and Emergency Services said they appreciate offers to fundraise but want to assure the public they are able to replace the equipment independently.

Those who want to make donations are asked to attend the Stuff a Fire Truck Xmas Toy Drive on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Weken Toys, 2469 Fourth Line, to benefit the Six Nations’ Christmas Basket program and assist local families this holiday season.
