She is predeceased by her parents Peter and Isobella and her brother James, brothers-in-law David Duguid and Pat Barry, and nephews Ian Duguid, James Knowles and Andrew Barry.

Mum was born at home in Woodside, Aberdeen, Scotland. Her youth was dominated by the depression and WWII and our family regularly enjoyed her tales of childhood rationing, bomb shelter adventures, and her participation in the care of her aunts. She met Dad at the dancing and they married in 1952, sending their few guests to the theatre with a box of chocolates to see a play about marriage. After the arrival of two daughters they immigrated to Canada. Mum journeyed with two toddlers on a turboprop plane via Reykjavik, Gander, New York City, Montreal and finally Toronto to join Dad in Hamilton. Mum was an animal lab technician, an x-ray and photo developer and bookshop clerk. She sewed, knitted sweaters, canned garden produce, toughed out camping and loved reading. She was not as fond of garlic and housework! She’ll be remembered for her toffee and rum balls at Christmas and for her emotional self, so different from our rational Dad.

Per Mum’s wishes, no service is planned and cremation has taken place. Donations in lieu of flowers could be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Association. Our deep gratitude is owed to the excellent Nursing and Medical Staffs at St. Joseph’s ER, CTU 4 and 6, and HGH CCU and 4 West, especially Doctors Acosta and Ganame, NP Claire Chaput and RT Dave Skidmore of the ICCP team.
