PURNELL, Jean Mary

-

Died peacefully on November 30, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Villa, Dundas in her 86th year. She will be missed by her family: children John (Jenny), Mark (Phyllis), Jim (Ruth), Aidan (Andrea), Susan (Angelo), and her grandchildren Jessica (Eric), Jenna, Alec, Olivia, Liam, Emmett, Madeline, her great-grandchild Elizabeth, her sister-in-law Jean, and niece and nephew Helen (Alistair) and Chris in England. She is predeceased by her brother John, her two babies Ann and Michael, her grandson Jack, and her husband George. Jean emigrated from England in 1960 to pursue a career in nursing and to travel across Canada. She met her husband and married in 1961, and raised her family. She resumed her health care career at St. Joseph’s Villa in the 1980’s until she retired in 1997 and continued to volunteer at the Villa for many years. She was an active member of the McMaster Newman Community, Christ Church Flamborough, Body and Soul, and the Espresso Coffee Gang. She had a deep love of animals and could solve any problem over a cup of tea. Many asked Jean to make or repair clothing as she was an excellent seamstress and had a love of sewing. She was known to walk from Greensville throughout Dundas where she saw many friends. A celebration of Jean’s Life will be held at Christ Church Flamborough, 92 Highway 8, Dundas on Sunday, December 16th at 3 p.m. with visiting one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the Canadian Mental Health Association would be appreciated by the family. We bid a fond farewell to the
