Hamilton police say detectives are busily following up on “solid leads” after a man fired shots into a stranger’s vehicle during a road rage incident that started on Highway 403 this week.

The incident began in the eastbound lanes near Brantford, about 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, with the driver of a dark, newer model, four-door vehicle driving aggressively, police said.

The victim told police the driver was tailgating his vehicle and then pulled up beside his car, slowing to allegedly fire shots.

The shooter sped off, but the victim caught up and followed him onto the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway, hoping to get a licence plate, police said.

The shooter drove to the area of Fortissimo Drive and Connell Crescent, near West 5th Street and the parkway, where he stopped, exited the vehicle and allegedly fired again into the victim’s car.

The victim told police he fled to call police, as the shooter got back in his vehicle and drove away. Bullet holes were found in the victim’s car.

No one was hurt.

The suspect was described as male, with light-brown skin, about six-foot-two and at least 200 pounds. He wore a dark tuque, jacket and boots.

When police spoke with The Spectator after the shooting, the licence plate and make of the vehicle were not known.

However, it’s not clear what information police have been able to uncover in the days since the shooting.

Const. Lorraine Edwards declined to answer questions about the ongoing investigation, other than to say detectives are working on “solid leads.”

Police are no longer appealing for witnesses to come forward.

In cases not extreme enough to warrant a 911 call, drivers are encouraged to report aggressive driving to police through the aggressive driver hotline at 905546-1768, or aggressivedriver@hamiltonpolice.ca.
