Photo radar damage predictable

We should all be outraged

After reading the quotes from workers at Grace Villa, I am outraged. As we all should be. The residents in this LTC were active members of our community. They gave back to their communities through their work and volunteering. They are loved and loving members of their families. They deserve much better than this report shows they received. Write your MPP and your local councillor. Obviously the inspection protocols we have in place are woefully inadequate. Licensing policies clearly need to be reviewed. Licences need to be revoked. Permanently. Our seniors deserve so much better. One day you or I could be a resident in an LTC. This treatment is unacceptable. Speak up.

Is Biden sounding like Trump?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t “Buy American” sound an awful lot like “Make America Great Again?” Just saying.

The city should not be surprised by the damage being done to its photo radar devices.

First they made the mistake of placing it in a location that was three-quarters rural and not a problem area.

Then they set an absurdly low threshold to start charging people. Ticketing “speeders” at 11 km/h is absurd, as that is nowhere close to being dangerous. No wonder people are calling it a “cash grab!”

The Highway Traffic Act does not even start assessing demerit points until 16 km/h (10 m.p.h.) over the limit, which is far more reasonable.

The city should set its limit starting at that level of 16 km/h or even 20 km/h, which would be far more fair and they could claim safety reasons with a modicum of moral authority and still generate some good income.

Elevate radar for protection

Of the 800 pounds in the photo radar boxes I suspect 775 pounds make the armoured box and 25 pounds make up the technology. We have thousands of utility poles which will easily support a 25 pound camera. It works for the red light cameras. Or is that too easy? Paul Charles, Hamilton

Letter was ‘beneath contempt’

Re: Trump supporters are all beneath contempt (Jan. 18)

The fact that the writer is spewing obvious hatred for Donald Trump and the Republican Party is beneath contempt in itself. May I suggest listening to a variety of news sources to get his information?

In a democratic society there is always room for debate and discussion and never room for “gutless and cloying” dismissal or hatred. I fully understand The Spectator caters to a left-wing demographic, and everyone has the right to their opinion, but the opinions should be open for discussion, not dismissive, and certainly not unnecessarily vehement.
