Hamilton man arrested on murder and assault charges
Angelo Miller is charged with first-degree murder in connection to stabbing death of Michael White
Angelo Miller, wanted on charges of murder and for the alleged forcible confinement and assault of a woman in Hamilton, has been arrested.
The 29-year-old was apprehended outside a Niagara Falls hotel around 1:45 p.m. on Thursday with the help of Niagara Regional Police, said Det. Sgt. Steve Bereziuk of the Hamilton police major crime unit.
It’s been more than a month since Miller was wanted for the alleged forcible confinement and assault of a woman inside his Concession Street apartment. Last week, police announced he was also wanted for first-degree murder in connection to the Dec. 13 fatal stabbing of 42-year-old Michael White.
Detectives have been working long days looking for the 29year-old.
“When you have an accused murdered out on the street wanted, there is always the fear of the unknown,” Bereziuk said. “When you find him there is a huge sense of relief.”
Police are grateful to those who called in many tips about Miller’s location. Investigators believe he had been at the unspecified Niagara Falls hotel for several days before his arrest.
Miller was not alone in the hotel, he said. Police are now investigating whether there are grounds to charge anyone with accessory after the fact.
The night before the stabbing, police believe White, Miller and an unidentified woman had been inside Miller’s apartment at 825 Concession St. The trio were acquaintances. The woman was allegedly confined and assaulted before she managed to flee to east Hamilton before police were called.
Police have not detailed what happened inside the apartment. However, a source has told The Spectator that White was believed to have been trying to help the woman. Had White survived, police confirmed he would have been a witness — not a suspect — in the forcible confinement case.
White left the apartment around 5:30 a.m. and walked to get food. Meanwhile, police allege that Miller’s dad, 59-yearold Angelo Graci, returned to his son’s apartment and that the pair set out in Graci’s blue Kia Soul looking for White. Graci was arrested Jan. 20 during a traffic stop. He is charged with first-degree murder. He is not alleged to be involved in the forcible confinement.
Both father and son were previously known to police. This includes police believing Graci had ties to traditional organized crime. However, police say there is no evidence this murder is Mob-related. Rather, whatever happened in that apartment led the father and son to search for White, Bereziuk alleges.
Police allege two men emerged from a Kia around 6 a.m. on East 27th Street and attacked White, who stumbled and collapsed on the road. He later died of his injuries in hospital. It’s not clear who wielded the a weapon, believed to be a knife, Bereziuk said.
Police are not looking for any other suspects in the homicide.
White was also known to police. He had many friends and family, including children and grandchildren. White’s family told police he was an avid card collector, liked playing card games and was well-loved by his family.
