Two wanted after stolen truck smashes into east Hamilton home
Suspects fled the scene on foot
At least two people are wanted after a stolen pickup truck smashed into an east-end home and severed a gas line Friday morning, police say.
Police responded to the home on Campbell Avenue, between Rosslyn and Balmoral avenues, just after 7 a.m.
Const. Indy Bharaj said a red pickup truck was travelling on Campbell when it passed Balmoral, struck a parked truck, went in reverse, hit the parked truck again, and then reversed “almost a full block” before crashing into a house and coming to rest on a front lawn.
No one in the home was hurt, Bharaj said. An HSR bus was called in to temporarily keep residents warm.
The truck also severed a gas line along Campbell, sending strong whiffs of fuel across the neighbourhood.
“The scent of gasoline was quite strong, you could smell it from blocks away,” Bharaj said, adding the gas line was later shut-off.
Witnesses reported seeing at least two people in the red truck, which police believe was recently stolen. Bharaj said the suspects fled the area on foot, jumping over fences and through backyards.
Police closed all lanes on Campbell from Kensington to Balmoral avenues and all lanes on Rosslyn from Barton to Cannon streets for roughly three hours.
The brazen incident Friday comes after a man was taken to hospital Thursday afternoon after crashing a stolen car into a hydro pole on the Mountain, police say.
And last Friday, police said a 13year-old girl was arrested after a
stolen pickup truck crashed through a fence and into a house at the corner of Dunsmure Road and Beland Avenue North.
