TRADE BAIT-O-METER

With the cold of winter comes hot trade speculation. Which prominent players might change teams?

PACK YOUR BAGS

EVANDER KANE

The Sabres are buried in the playoff race, Kane’s contract expires this summer, and he’s having a monster season. Teams will line up with offers for his unique power forward skills.

ONE MAN’S TRASH, ANOTHER MAN’S TREASURE

ALEX GALCHENYUK The Habs never miss a chance to publicly stomp on one-time 30goal man Galchenyuk’s confidence, so a team looking to add a young, high-ceiling forward could attempt a lowball offer to swipe him away.

DON’T FORGET ABOUT ME

JAMES NEAL

The Golden Knights have been a legendary story as an expansion team. Still, would a second-half swoon shock anyone? If the overachievers start underachieving, Neal is a pending UFA and you just know he’d net a good draft pick and/or prospect in a trade.

DON’T BUY A HOUSE

MIKE GREEN If the Wings slide out of playoff contention, Green will be the most coveted rental on the market as a right-shot offensive blueliner with an expiring deal. The list of suitors should be long enough to force an overpay from a defense-starved club.

THE SLEEPER

JOE THORNTON The Sharks aren’t a playoff shoo-in. If they sit outside the bubble by mid-winter, might pending UFA Thornton, 38, waive his no-move clause and allow a trade to a contender as part of a Cup chase?

DREAM ON

CAREY PRICE Stop. It’s not happening. He hasn’t even started Season 1 of his eightyear extension. The only way he’s dealt is if the Habs bottom out and agree with Price to a mutual parting of ways to jump-start a scorched-earth rebuild. We aren’t there yet.
