Hwy. 37 house fire, shooting linked, say police

A house fire on Highway 37 Wednesday occurred at the same residence involved in a reported shooting April 29, say Belleville Police.

Investigat­ion continues into both incidents.

In a news release, police said on May 8 at 12:34 a.m., the Belleville Police Service and Belleville Fire Department responded to a residence located at 1149 Highway 37 Belleville for a report of a structure fire.

“When police and fire arrived, the residence was fully engulfed in flames. The residence was empty at the time of the fire and there are no reported injuries. The Belleville Police Service, Belleville Fire Department and the Ontario Fire Marshall's Office continue to investigat­e the cause of the fire,” police said.

Police are asking anyone with informatio­n, home video or vehicle video in the area of Highway # 37 and Harmony Road area to email bps.tips@belleville­ps.ca, call 613-966-0882 ext.3600 or Quinte Crime Stoppers.

Meanwhile, Belleville Police confirmed, “the residence located at 1149 Highway 37 is the same residence that was involved in the shooting occurrence on April 29. This incident still remains under investigat­ion by the Belleville Police Service's Criminal Investigat­ion Division.”

Police continue to seek witnesses and any video related to the occurrence.
