Land exchange tender awarded, work to begin promptly
The Municipality of Jasper and Grande Yellowhead Public School Division (GYPSD) are pleased to announce that the tender for restoring the land parcel noted in the 2011 Land Exchange Agreement between the Municipality and GYPSD has been awarded to Jasper Concrete Ltd.
Ongoing collaboration between the Municipality of Jasper and GYPSD on developing the project specifications to align with community objectives and seeking the best outcome for the community led to the joint agreement on accepting a bid from Jasper Concrete Ltd to complete the work over the summer of 2016.
“The new multi-purpose green space will accommodate community needs now and in the future, providing exceptional recreation and leisure opportunities in the heart of town,” says Mayor Richard Ireland. “The design includes a multipurpose sports pitch to provide an alternative for our busy Centennial Park facilities, and will also feature basic amenities to support a variety of community events and gatherings.”
“The Division is very proud of our new high school in Jasper that was a result of the strong collaboration between Jasper, our Board and Parks Canada. The current plans in place to restore the exchanged land will greatly compliment the needs of the community and we are pleased to see this project moving forward for the benefit of all,” noted local GYPSD Trustee, Betsy DeClercq.
Following a community vote on a question regarding a possible land exchange held in 2011, the Municipality of Jasper exchanged Parcel R11, the Bowling Green, with GYPSD to facilitate the construction of the new Jasper Junior-Senior High School. Conditions of the land exchange noted that the old high school site would be restored as Recreational Open Space, preserving the land use designations and ratios set by Parks Canada in the community. The project will be completed at no additional cost to the local taxpayer, as stipulated in the 2011 Land Exchange Agreement between the Municipality of Jasper and GYPSD.
