HRH Talent Show donates to Red Cross

-

Holy Redeemer’s Second Annual Talent Show not only showcased the amazing talent the students have at HRH, but also demonstrated their commitment to helping those in need – especially the evacuees from the wildfire in Fort McMurray.

“When the fire happened our students did not hesitate to want to help,” says event organizer and Music Teacher Danielle Unger. “The Talent Show was supposed to be a fundraiser for the music program, however we realize that there many people who don’t have the necessities they need. This should certainly come ahead of some new music equipment.”

Over 15 acts performed in front of the over 120 audience members in attendance on May 6. Everything from monologues to dance routines to bands, the audience was thoroughly entertained.

Volunteers were asked to judge the acts and award prizes to the top three finishers. First place was brothers Devin and Dustin Sibley as they performed a duo to Metallica’s “To Live is to Die”; second place was grade 9 student Ethan Gole for his piano rendition of Sam Smith’s “Stay with Me”; and third place was awarded to Jordan Babych and Brendan Butts for an original composition of voice and guitar called “One Day”.

One of the judges, Greg Templeton said he was really impressed with the

talent all of the acts brought to the stage. “I was honoured to be a judge at (at the) Talent Show,” he says. “Holy Redeemer has talent! Edson is loaded with talent!”

Half of the proceeds of the event will be donated to the Canadian Red

Cross to assist with the evacuees from the wildfire in Fort McMurray. “We raised $315 for the relief efforts,” says Unger. “And this is just a start as we plan to have more activities and events to raise more money in the weeks to come.”

Be sure to stay tuned to the Holy Redeemer Facebook page on how you can help with the fundraising events to help those affected by the devastating wildfires.
