Special to the Post

Kurt Scobie, Grande Yellowhead Public School Division’s current Supervisor of Learning Services Technology, is taking on a new challenge for the 2016-17 school year when he takes over as principal at Crescent Valley School in Hinton.

“I was pleased to announce Kurt as the successful candidate as Crescent Valley’s principal with his commitment in supporting learning initiatives, and his collaborative leadership style as Supervisor of the Technology team at GYPSD for the last several years,” said Cory Gray, Superintendent of Schools.

Kurt joined Grande Yellowhead in September of 1994 and has taken on a number of roles in the past 22 years as he enjoys expanding his knowledge and learning new skills. Kurt completed his Masters of Education in Leadership and School Improvement in 2006 at the University of Alberta. Before accepting the position as Supervisor of Technology in 2007, he taught different elementary grade levels and was the Assistant Principal at Crescent Valley for five years. Kurt is looking forward to returning to focusing his energy back at the school level.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my years as a teacher, Assistant Principal, and Supervisor of Technology in Grande Yellowhead. These experiences have afforded me an opportunity to learn a great deal about myself and how much I enjoy working with students, teachers, administrators, and schools,” explains Kurt. “I want to continue to be an advocate for the students but also believe I can provide opportunities for staff to collaborate and develop strategies to improve the student experience at the elementary school level, while enhancing the school identity within the community. I look forward to guiding a smaller more focused group of individuals forward in their learning and teaching.”

Crescent Valley is a kindergarten to grade 7 school located in Hinton, AB and has a current population of 325 students
