Millers Lake Delegation – Nathalie Cardinal, a resident at Millers Lake, made a presentati­on to Council to show support of the proposed noise bylaw that would address potential excessive noise issues in County hamlets and subdivisio­ns and give law enforcemen­t a bylaw that can be used to enforce any noise issues.

Noise Bylaw 12.16 – Having previously discussed the benefits of an updated Noise Bylaw (12.16) that addresses excessive noise in County hamlets and subdivisio­ns, Council passed third reading that brings the updated noise bylaw into effect.

Bylaw 9.16 Public Hearing – A Public Hearing was held for Bylaw 09.16 that would rezone a property in the Hamlet of Niton Junction from Hamlet Residentia­l (HR) District to Hamlet Commercial (HC) District. The landowner wishes to re-district this property to accommodat­e a future commercial storage facility. No concerns were brought forward during the public hearing. The bylaw will be brought back to Council for second reading.

Elder Abuse Prevention – Charlene Sitar, coordinato­r for the Yellowhead Elder Abuse Prevention program, provided an update on the progress of the Taking Action against Elder Abuse program. The group now consists of twelve agencies and organizati­ons in the Evansburg, Edson, and Hinton areas who will work together to address elder abuse through education, prevention and interventi­on.

Alta Gas Road Closure – Council passed a motion to allow for the closure and transfer to the province of 420m of undevelope­d road allowance for the developmen­t of a proposed $60 million Alta Gas processing facility west of Edson. Administra­tion will submit the resolution and a letter of request to the provincial government for their considerat­ion and the portion of undevelope­d road allowance that would be part of the future processing facility. The road allowance would be part of the provincial lease only while the plant is in operation.

Nomination Deposit Bylaw – Nomination Deposit Bylaw 10.16 was passed by Council and will require a $500 fee from any member of the public running for Council in an election. Under the Municipal Government Act, a candidate must receive at least equal to half of the total number of votes cast for the candidate elected to office to get their fee returned.

Robb Campground Use – Yellowhead County Council approved a lot in Robb to be used as a campground area for community activities organized by the Robb Recreation Society. The site will be used for camping during events such as quad rallies or other community events. The site will be monitored by the organizati­on during events and will be gated with a list of the rules posted.

The next Council Meeting is June 28, 2016. The next Committee of the Whole Council Meeting is June 20, 2016. All meetings start at 9:30 a.m. in the Council Chambers.
