Trustees viewed a presentati­on of the division’s Youth Symposium which was held on May 5, 2016 in Hinton for grade seven and eight students. The students participat­ed in a facilitate­d conversati­on with questions that arose from the Tell Them From Me Survey in areas of social engagement, institutio­nal engagement, intellectu­al engagement, emotional engagement, quality instructio­n, school context, classroom context, family context, academic outcomes and accountabi­lity pillar informatio­n.

Trustees received a letter from the Municipali­ty of Jasper stating the reduction to a continuous 30 km/hr speed zone encompassi­ng the Jasper Jr/Sr High School, Jasper Elementary School, École Desrochers, and Centennial Park.

A detailed review of the proposed changes to the Alberta School Boards’ Associatio­n Bylaws and its proposed Budget for 2016-2017 was discussed by the Board.

A report on the collection of instructio­nal material fees for the current year was given.

Trustees also received updates on two major capital projects:

The modernizat­ion of Grande Cache Community High School (GCCHS) and the new replacemen­t elementary school in Edson. The modernizat­ion project is on target for completion for the start of the 2017 – 2018 school year.

Alberta Infrastruc­ture has the final tender drawings and specs for the Edson Replacemen­t School and the next step is proceeding to tender.
