Concerns over power company lawsuit
Dear Editors,
Today my inbox held a letter from Brian Jean which, with his permission I pass on to West Yellowhead voters. The lawsuit the NDP government has filed against its own government agencies and several power generators is of vital concern to all Albertans. Here, with very minor editing is Brian’s letter:
Clyde,
The NDP government is spending Albertans’ money on a lawsuit against Alberta government agencies and Alberta power companies!
That’s right. Taxpayers will be paying to launch and defend a lawsuit started by the NDP. Rather than sitting down at the table with these Alberta owned power companies to devise a solution that helps Albertans, the NDP is using the courts to hide their incompetence. To add insult to injury, the NDP is also spending taxpayer money on advertising this mess, adding to the millions already spent trying to sell the risky carbon tax that put them in this situation to begin with.
Even worse, the NDP is deceiving Albertans by claiming that they did not know about the consequences of tinkering with electricity policy. We warned the NDP about the problem when they raised these taxes and when they enacted their risky climate plan and carbon tax - but they would not listen. Now, taxpayers and consumers are again on the hook for the NDP’s irresponsible ideology and their failure to conduct proper due diligence.
The instability in our economy is made worse by the government taking Alberta companies to court, which will drive more and more investment out of Alberta, making life that much harder for everyday Albertans who are already struggling. Had the NDP taken a responsible common-sense approach from the very start, all of this could have been avoided. Albertans are worried enough as it is paying their own bills, let alone the bills of an incompetent government.
The NDP cannot have a free pass when it comes to not understanding how Alberta works. We need to continue fighting NDP incompetence and irresponsibility, but we cannot do it without the support and help of every concerned Albertan.
Sincerely, Brian Jean, Wildrose Leader
I would add to Brian’s words an invitation to all West Yellowhead constituents who share our concerns about the NDP’s impending carbon tax and the imprudent lawsuit it spawned.
