Alberta Junior Forest Rangers help green up campgrounds
Yellowhead County Campgrounds are “greening up” thanks to the Alberta Junior Forest Rangers and pine trees donated by Weyerhaeuser . On Wednesday, August 03, 2016, the Alberta Junior Forest Rangers assisted Yellowhead County Parks and Recreation with planting 100 pine trees that were generously donated by Weyerhaeuser. The trees were planted in reclaimed areas due to recent campground day-use upgrades and in campsite areas suffering from widening and braiding. The Junior Forest Rangers brought their strength and tools, as well as knowledge gained from their program, to ensure proper planting and future success of the trees. Parks and Special Projects Coordinator Kevin Myles was impressed by their work ethic and spirit noting that their resourcefulness was handy in determining locations for planting. The three foot pine trees were offered by Ian Kwantes of Weyerhaeuser, who reached out to the County to see if the trees could be useful for any current projects,. The timing was perfect to involve the Junior Forest Rangers and to best utilize the donated trees. Yellowhead County would like thank Weyerhaeuser and the Alberta Junior Forest Rangers and are looking forward to opportunities for future partnerships.
