Facility Services updated the Board on three cur-rent capital projects in the division: the modernizat­ion project for Grande Cache Community High School (GCCHS), the replacemen­t school in Ed-son, and the renovation project at Grand Trunk High School in Evansburg.

Grande Cache:

Phase 3 was completed over the summer. Phase 2 and Phase 4 (library and classrooms) will be completed and handed over on August 26th, 2016. Classrooms 119 and 120 will be completed by September 2nd, 2016. The library is scheduled to move at the end of August. Phase 5 (gymnasium and administra­tive areas) footings and foundation work and masonry work has started. The majority of the site work including curbs, walks and paving will be completed by September 1, 2016.

Edson:

The Edson Replacemen­t School Project will be an Alberta Infrastruc­ture managed project under the Design – Bid – Build approach. Tenders closed on July 5, 2016 with the contract awarded to the low-est tender submitted by United Constructi­on Com-pany in the amount of $12,117,369. A constructi­on trailer and temporary fencing are being placed on-site during the week of August 22, 2016.

Evansburg:

The constructi­on of the new student gathering area and new staff lounge started at the beginning of July 2016 and is nearing completion. Demolition was completed the 3rd week of July. The project is scheduled for completion in late August. Other News in Brief

The Annual Communicat­ions Plan was approved by the Board which highlights the division’s com-munication­s strategies for the 2016-17 school year.

Trustees ratified the Division Bus Driver Agree-ment for a three year period beginning retroac-tively from July 1st, 2015 and ending on July 31st, 2018.

The 2016-17 Schedule of Superinten­dent and Monitoring Reports was provided to trustees which sets out a guide on providing informatio­n to the Board on the division’s various initiative­s and results throughout the year.

As per Policy 19 - Staff Recognitio­n, the Board was very pleased to learn that a total of 77 staff will be receiving continuous long service awards this year at the annual welcome back events celebrated throughout the division in the communi-ties of Wildwood, Edson, Hinton, Grande Cache and Jasper. Service awards are being recognized from 5 years up to 40 years at this year’s events. Congratula­tions to all recipients.
