Parent Link changes

Some changes are coming to Parent Link Centre (PLC) programming in Edson.

On August 19, 2016, representatives from the Human Services Ministry conducted site visits and reviewed the Parent Link West Network programs in Edson at the FCSS Family/Parent Link Centre located in the Red Brick School, and the Edson Play and Learn program located in the Edson Early Learning & Child Care Centre.

The Parent Link West Managing Partners were informed that child care and preschool programs, such as Edson Play and Learn do not fit within the provincial PLC program mandate. Parent Link services are to be provided at no cost to participants. Also, financial supports for parents utilizing child care and preschool services are available to parents who qualify, through the provincial child care subsidy program. Hence the Play and Learn program fees would increase in the 2017-2018 school year, making them comparable to other preschool programs in the province.

Parent Link Centre funds will be redirected in our community to support other services including parent education, family support, and child development supports. The Edson Parent Link Play and Learn is a licensed and accredited child care program that is highly regarded in our community. The Edson Parent Link West partners are planning a Play and Learn information session to answer questions and provide information to those affected by this change.
