Bulk orders help County residents save on Spring seedlings
Yellowhead County Agricultural Services is offering County residents the opportunity to purchase tree seedlings at low cost.
Yellowhead County Agricultural Services is once again ordering seedlings on behalf of County residents. The species chosen are all suitable for this region’s plant hardiness zones and can be planted for a wide variety of uses on people’s properties. Agricultural Services purchases the seedlings in bulk which allows participants to get them at lower prices. There will be no application required, and anyone residing within Yellowhead County is eligible to buy trees.
When ordered individually trees would cost between $3.00 and $5.00 a seedling, but if ordered through the Spring Seedling Program the seedlings will only cost $1.85 - $4.10 per seedling. Agricultural Services have added several new species to the list this year, and in total, there will be 15 species to choose from which are ideal for shelterbelts and acreages. All tree orders must be in multiples of ten.
An example of some of the species available includes Colorado Spruce, Manitoba Maple, Scotch Pine, Okanese Poplar, Nanking Cherry, Golden Willow, Variegated Dogwood and much more! The average size of the seedlings received will be from 15 cm tall to 72 cm tall depending on the species.
Order forms and a list of the species are available at both Yellowhead County offices in Edson and Wildwood starting January 3 and can be downloaded and printed off from the County Website as well. Participants placing an order must make a payment in full upon placing an order. All order forms must be submitted and paid in full before January 27, 2017. Trees will be available for pickup from either County office location in May of this year.
