Strategic Priorities – Council received an update on some of the operationa­l initiative­s being undertaken by staff based on the Yellowhead County 2017 Strategic Priorities Report. The report is created annually by Council to prioritize projects and other issues for Yellowhead County for the upcoming year.

Dust Control Fees – Council will keep the rates of the dust control program fees at $200/applicatio­n. Residents can sign up for two dust control applicatio­ns per year – one applicatio­n in the spring and the other in the fall.

Donahoo School Historic Designatio­n – Council approved an applicatio­n submitted by the Donahoo Community Associatio­n for a Municipal Historic Resource Designatio­n on the Donahoo School near Wildwood. The designatio­n is part of the Yellowhead County Municipal Heritage Management Plan that identifies, protects and helps conserve historic places throughout the region.

Airport Lease Renewal – Council approved a five-year lease to Rotaiva Aircraft Services Ltd. at the County’s Jasper/ Hinton Airport for $400 per year. Rotaiva provides fueling services at the airport for local and transitory aircraft.

Property Purchase – Yellowhead County has agreed to purchase a 17 acre parcel (Plan 6692NY, Lot H) for $8.5 million. The parcel, located adjacent to the County facility in Edson, is a serviced land base and includes over 50,000 sq. feet of office and shop space. The acquisitio­n will position the County favourably for its long-term future growth and potential partnershi­ps that will be required via inter-municipal Collaborat­ion Framework Agreements which are new provisions under the Municipal Government Act.

The next Council Meetings are February 14 & 28, 2017. The next Committee of the Whole Council Meeting is February 21, 2017. All meetings start at 9:30 a.m. in the Council Chambers.
