Hodge Podge Springing into action

- June McInnes by June McInnes

With spring upon us and the days just a little longer I’m beginning to see the light at the end of the winter tunnel. The garden is starting to wake up and our cat is showing much more interest in going outside to restate his territory.

Winter was long for me, not because I hate being indoors, but because we are still renovating our house. To be fair it was semi derelict when we moved in and I do feel that we’ve come such a long way in completing this particular project. I showed some before and after pictures to a friend and she was amazed. She told me, “the difference was staggering,” and, “we should be really proud of ourselves.”

The base is we’re happy with it and it makes everything better having a properly functioning home, with all the bells and whistles, like heating and floors, walls, a decent kitchen. I mean it’s not so easy trying to cook for seven of us without a work top or table on a two ring. But we got through it, wearing coats in bed and hats and gloves, now I think back it makes me laugh, but it wasn’t funny at the time.

That bit’s over now and I hope we never have to do this again. I’m seriously getting too old for this stuff.

So, this year we get to do the lighter stuff, the wall papering, the painting, chintz it up.

The things I’ve been looking forward to doing. Lastly it will be the garden. Mowing and weeding, planting some bulbs and thinning down some of the plants already in residence.

And on the plus side, there will be no spring cleaning this year as everything has been pulled out anyway and put back new and there will be no cobwebs either, marvellous.

So, looking forward, it will wonderful to have the hard work on the house behind us and get ready to put on the market. We’re hoping to be able to do this by the end of April.

So, it’s stand by your beds and fluff that cushion.
