Capital Projects Update
Facility Services provided their regular updates to the Board on two current capital projects in the Division: the modernization project for Grande Cache Community High School (GCCHS) and the new replacement school in Edson, Mary Bergeron Elementary.
GCCHS: The cement slab in the gathering area has been poured and trustees were impressed with the stained concrete floor design for the entry. The painting in the gym is almost completed with
the hardwood flooring scheduled for installation in the first part of March. The office millwork is being installed and should be completed by the middle of February. The new mechanical system will be operational before the end of the month.
Edson: The gym masonry walls have been completed and the trusses installed. Construction of the music room and mechanical room walls has started and is scheduled to be completed at the end of February. Two thirds of the steel has been erected and exterior stud walls are partially completed.

Trustees approved Eight Budgeting Principles for the upcoming 2017-18 year which defines the parameters for them to assign resources of the Division in meeting their identified priorities in a transparent and consistent manner:

• For the current school year, GYPSD transports more than 2,700 students over 32,000 kilometers and operates 56 school bus routes. As part of the provincial funding application for transportation, the division is required to complete information on various statistics including those students requiring additional supports and types of passengers transported.
The Board received a detailed report provided by Gail Prokopchuk, Director of Trans-portation Services, for their information.
In order to provide meaningful, supportive and inclusive learning
environments for students, GYPSD encourages all stakeholders to partici-pate in various surveys. Between November and December of 2016, GYPSD invited staff, community members and parents to participate in the Thought-exchange process to share issues of im-portance to them. Almost 800 people offered their thoughts and they will be shared with schools to assist staff in developing their school improve-ment plans for the upcoming school year. This year’s results will be made available to the public on the division’s website once finalized.
