Consultation and engagement begins for the proposed Icefields Trail (North) concept

-

Jim Eglinski, Member of Parliament for Yellowhead, welcomed Parks Canada’s invitation to participate in consultations for the proposed Icefields Trail (North) concept. As part of Budget 2016, the Government of Canada proposed a new bike and walking trail along the Icefields Parkway from Jasper to the

Columbia Icefield.

Public consultation and engagement is a key priority for Parks Canada, as is consultation with Indigenous Peoples. The detailed impact analysis (commonly referred to as an environmental assessment), along with input from the consultations, will inform the decision on the overall project. Indigenous Peoples and the public would also be consulted on any potential extension of the trail to Lake Louise.

Information on the proposal, including project and detailed impact analysis overviews, concept maps, design principles, online survey and public open house details can be found on the Icefields

Trail concept webpage.

Four public open houses will be held from March 14 – 17, 2017 in Jasper, Edmonton, Calgary and Banff. You can also provide your feedback online through Park Canada’s feedback form.

For current information on the consultations, please visit the Parks

Canada webpage.

“I am pleased to see that the consultations will begin, for a bike and walking trail along the Icefields Parkway from Jasper to the Columbia Icefield. This trail would allow many visitors to experience the Icefields more personally,” concluded MP Eglinski.
