The Buzz on Beekeeping – Intermediate course
Special to the Post
Yellowhead County Agricultural Services is now offering an intermediate beekeeping course to compliment the Beekeeping Basics Course that was held in February. The Buzz on Beekeeping will go over the several main facets of beekeeping. “Patty Milligan who taught the Beekeeping Basics Courses will be joining us again, this time to dive deeper into the aspects of what it really takes to be a beekeeper,” explains Yellowhead County’s agricultural services coordinator Melissa Marquis. “This class is meant for those who attended our beginner course in February of this year, or for those who have already tried their hand at beekeeping and need some more information.”
The Buzz on Beekeeping will go over spring and fall management, dealing with swarms, splitting hives, problems with queens, detailed steps for registering your bees, diseases, details about the harvest, and the time frame. This class is only recommended for those who have previously taken a beginners course, have tried beekeeping in the past, or for those who are currently beekeeping. Attendants with 1 – 3 years of beekeeping experience will benefit the most from this intermediate course.
The course is being held on Saturday March 25, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Peers Multiplex. Snacks and refreshments will be provided throughout the day, as well as a light lunch. The cost to attend is $25.00/ person. Please register for this course early as space is limited.
Please pre-register and pay before March 17th, 2017. For more information or to register please contact the Yellowhead County Wildwood Office at 1800-814-3935 or 780-325-3782.
