Edson Town Council updates
May 16 meeting
RCMP Citizen Recognition. Council received a presentation from the RCMP as they recognized a local citizen on going above and beyond in assisting at a recent incident. Mr. Allan Fritz was presented with a certificate and a gift for his efforts in assisting local Staff Sergeant Peter King as he was involved in an altercation with suspects while making an arrest in the Hillendale area. Mr. Fritz stepped in to assist during the altercation and also notified 9-1-1, connecting the officer to dispatch to relay important information. Council commended Mr. Fritz for his actions and the RCMP noted this is a great example of how much the public assists the RCMP, not only in dangerous situations like this, but in calling in reports of suspicious activity and other similar actions.
Kinder Morgan Pipeline. Council has authorized the Town of Edson to enter into right of way agreements with Trans Mountain pipeline regarding the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Expansion Project. Earlier concerns over tree replanting and impacted areas were addressed, and the Town of Edson will receive $230,000 in compensation for the agreements. This money will be paid out at the time the official project approval is given.
Sale of Town Owned Land Policy. Approval was given for the new policy to deal with the way Town owned land is sold. The policy discusses the various methods of sale, as well as how the price of each lot would be set.
Meeting Dates. The regularly scheduled Council Meeting of June 6, 2017 has been cancelled due to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference.
The summer meeting schedule has also been set. There will be Council Meetings held July 18, 2017 and August 15, 2017 at 7:30 in Council Chambers. All other Council and Committee meetings will be cancelled for the months of July and August.
Library Financial Statements. Council accepted the 2016 Financial Statements for the Edson and District Public Library as information.
